How Lessons Work

What a lesson actually looks like

Every lesson is one-on-one and built around you — your goals, your skill level, and the music you care about. No cookie-cutter method books. No going through the motions.

1

Week 1

We talk about your goals, assess where you are, and build a plan that makes sense for you.

2

Weeks 2–4

Focused work on technique and fundamentals, paired with a song or piece you actually want to learn.

3

Ongoing

Theory, ear training, and performance prep woven in as you grow — always balanced with creative exploration.

  • Live 1-on-1 lessons with a working musician and educator
  • A structured, goal-based plan — not casual weekly check-ins
  • Practice assignments and progress tracking between every lesson — in your student portal
  • Scheduling and lesson management through the studio portal and this site
  • Technique, theory, ear training, and creative exploration in balance
  • Optional prep for ABRSM, auditions, or performance opportunities

Matt Shill, online music teacher for piano, guitar, voice, and more

About

Meet Matt Shill

I want every student to leave a lesson feeling like they made real progress — and excited to come back next week.

I've spent over 15 years teaching students of every age and level — from someone picking up a guitar for the first time to performers preparing for conservatory auditions. My job is to meet you where you are and help you get where you want to go.

I hold dual degrees in Piano and Guitar Performance from the Frost School of Music at the University of Miami, with early training at the Eastman School of Music. I teach piano, guitar, voice, bass, and drums — blending formal technique with creativity, confidence, and real-world musicianship.

My students have been accepted to Juilliard, Berklee, Manhattan School of Music, and more. I've also worked with younger students on original songwriting, advanced sight reading, and professional-grade recordings — sometimes before they've finished high school.

Outside the studio, I'm a songwriter, recording engineer, and performer with over a million streams on my debut album.

For younger students, parents are welcome to observe — especially early on. As students get comfortable, many prefer to learn independently. We'll find what works best for your family.
