How Lessons Work
What a lesson actually looks like
Every lesson is one-on-one and built around you — your goals, your skill level, and the music you care about. No cookie-cutter method books. No going through the motions.
Week 1
We talk about your goals, assess where you are, and build a plan that makes sense for you.
Weeks 2–4
Focused work on technique and fundamentals, paired with a song or piece you actually want to learn.
Ongoing
Theory, ear training, and performance prep woven in as you grow — always balanced with creative exploration.

About
Meet Matt Shill
“I want every student to leave a lesson feeling like they made real progress — and excited to come back next week.”
I've spent over 15 years teaching students of every age and level — from someone picking up a guitar for the first time to performers preparing for conservatory auditions. My job is to meet you where you are and help you get where you want to go.
I hold dual degrees in Piano and Guitar Performance from the Frost School of Music at the University of Miami, with early training at the Eastman School of Music. I teach piano, guitar, voice, bass, and drums — blending formal technique with creativity, confidence, and real-world musicianship.
My students have been accepted to Juilliard, Berklee, Manhattan School of Music, and more. I've also worked with younger students on original songwriting, advanced sight reading, and professional-grade recordings — sometimes before they've finished high school.
Outside the studio, I'm a songwriter, recording engineer, and performer with over a million streams on my debut album. I'm also building Musikkii — the platform my students use for subscriptions and scheduling — because lesson management should feel as personal as the lessons themselves.
FAQ
Common questions
Lessons are held online via video call. You'll need a reliable internet connection, a device with a camera, and your instrument. I work with students across time zones.
Your instrument (or a keyboard for piano beginners), a quiet space, and a willingness to practice between lessons. I'll help you figure out the rest at your free trial.
Every subscription includes my Never Miss a Lesson guarantee. Life happens — we'll work together to reschedule or make it up so you don't lose progress.
Yes. Book a free trial lesson and we'll spend time getting to know your goals, assessing your level, and making sure we're a good fit — no commitment required.
Choose a weekly lesson length and subscribe monthly or yearly through Musikkii (save 10% with annual billing). After subscribing, you'll pick your weekly lesson time. Cancel anytime before your next billing cycle.
Musikkii is the platform I built to run my studio — subscriptions, scheduling, and your student portal. You'll hear from me through Musikkii for scheduling and account updates. The portal is transitioning from My Music Staff to the Musikkii app over time, and I'll let you know when yours is ready.
For younger students, parents are welcome to observe — especially early on. As students get comfortable, many prefer to learn independently. We'll find what works best for your family.
